Here I am on Tuesday morning giving highlights on the weekend:
- This weekend was great but it was busy.
- My wife runs a brand new academy and Friday night was “family night”. It was a lot of fun and it was an opportunity to meet a lot of new people. Jill did an awesome job! I am so proud of her. I heard so many comments about how incredible the semester has been and about how excited people are about Jill beginning this new venture.
- Saturday morning was “Shop With A Hero”! It was awesome! We ministered to 41 children and their parents and we had a great turnout of police officers and firefighters in uniform to help love on these kids. I was so proud of our volunteers! What a huge turnout and display of Jesus’ love.
- We were able to catch our breath for Saturday afternoon and evening.
- Sunday morning at the CATGrove was incredible for a number of reasons. It was a great having Nathan Boyd teach and share his heart about responding to the needs of people in our community. Nathan did an incredible job! You can check out our website here or you can go to i-tunes and search on “Church at the Grove” or “Russ Butcher” and subscribe. Or you can click here (feedburner) and you will have multiple options to download and subscribe for our weekly messages. My brother Butch was in one of our services this weekend and that was special. He recently took a denominational job and will be free to attend and preach in various churches for the first time in a long time.
- Sunday night we had our annual business meeting for CATGrove. I know, I know, that sounds awfully boring! It wasn’t. We spent about five minutes affirming our budget for 2008 and affirming our Elder team but then David Odom and his band rocked the house for about an hour as we celebrated this past year and looked forward to this next year of ministry in East Metro Atlanta. It was absolutely a blast!
- Georgia got shafted! Why voters ranked the DAWGS number 4 the previous week only to penalize them the next week for not playing in a championship game, I will never understand. Oh well, who would have thought they would even be mentioned in the championship conversation this year? I probably shouldn’t care, but I do enjoy college football. I am almost ready to walk away from professional and college sports altogether because of the corruption, but as long as Mark Richt is at Georgia, I will continue to follow the DAWGS.
- I am excited about this month and what is going on with CATGrove! It is going to be an awesome month. It is a great month to pray about and invest in some relationships with the idea of inviting people to church in January. Lots and lots of people will go back to church in January. Think strategically about using this month to prepare for the first few weeks in January.
