“Once for All” HE for ME

Nov 16

The past Sunday night at my house in my community group we discussed at length what God did in His grace giving Jesus to die on the cross.  This week I have been meditating on and contemplating the significance of what Jesus’ death on the cross did for us in forgiving us and providing for our atonement ONCE FOR ALL!

In Leviticus we see the principle of atonement applied in the yearly sacrifice and ritual called Yom Kippur where the sins of the people were atoned for, but the problem is that everyone knew that they would have to revisit this ritual again at the same time next year.

The beauty in the doctrine or belief of substitutionary atonement is that Jesus became the substitute for us in taking our sin upon himself to pay “once for all” for the sin of those that have turned to follow Him and trust in Him.  There no longer is a need for the yearly ritual of sacrifice and atonement because it has been provided for “once for all”.

This blows me away!  The mercy and the grace of God in what He has done to draw us close to Him has overwhelmed me this week as I thought about it.  Shouldn’t we live overwhelmed daily to the point that we are moment by moment reflecting this love to others?

As we enter into the week of the thanksgiving holiday, JESUS’ ATONING SACRIFICE is something to truly be thankful for!
