My Family’s Journey thru the Bible
January 11th, 2008 Posted in Bible, FamilyI set a goal for our family to read the Bible all the way through this year. Right now we are doing great with keeping up and it has been a lot of fun.
Abigail and Caleb get a little distracted but for the most part Jill, Josiah and I are able to stay focused.
We gather together mostly in the evening and we are following a Bible Reading Plan from NavPress. You can check it out for yourself. The plan will alternate books of the Bible to keep it fresh. On days our schedule is crazy, often Jill will read with the kids in the morning and some days we split it up with morning and evening. Jill is also working with them on memorization utilizing a Catechism.
I got the idea from reading Tony Morgan’s blog this past year. Check out his post explaining his plan. We are also using The Message Bible translation and it is an attention grabber for the kids.
I don’t think everyone has to read the Bible through in a year but I think it is a great idea to gather as a family for a time of devotion, Bible reading and family worship and prayer on a daily basis.
I know we might get off schedule a bit, but for the most part it is going well and I anticipate we will be able to continue it. I have learned that when you get off schedule on a goal, you simply have to pick up where you left off and not get discouraged.
