Making a List – Checking it Twice

Yes, Santa Claus makes a list and checks it twice, but followers of Jesus should take advantage of a great time right now to make a list of people they can influence toward Jesus for 2009. We should constant be aware of our role in helping our local church fulfill the GREAT COMMISSION. but the beginning of a New Year is always the perfect time in re-focusing our attention on what is most important. Here are a few thoughts and ideas:
- Always begin with prayer. Begin to pray for those people within your circle of influence. Pray by name and pray specifically.
- List their names in a prayer journal and pray regularly.
- Ask someone to partner with you in prayer.
- Think strategically of ways you can share God’s love with them in practical ways. Example: If you hear they have lost a loved one or endured a sickness, take them a meal one evening. If they have a new baby, offer to take a meal and maybe give them some diapers. Think of easy, practical ways you can show God’s love in a practical sense.
- Invite them to a worship gathering with you and plan to have lunch afterward.
- Ask them if what they heard and experienced made sense to them and offer to make yourself available to talk about any topic or answer any questions.
This New Year is a perfect time to evaluate your own relationship with God and to re-focus on sharing Jesus with others. Take advantage of a new starting point.
