You are the key but not the foundation or the ultimate determinate.

*He is the only foundation.
1 Corinthians 3:11 (NIV)
11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

*Transformational/Servant Leadership is the key to leading.

*Transformation is the goal.  We team with people out of a biblical mandate.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

*Servant Leadership is the mode.
Mark 9:35 (NIV)
35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.”

*Transformational leadership reminds of our purpose while servant leadership reminds us of who we are.

Big Idea:
God is Working!

Memory Verse:
Philippians 2:12-13 (NIV)
12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed–not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence–continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.

Action Step:
Accept the 40 day “Act of Kindness” Challenge and take “Kindness” Cards and share them with people receiving your act of Kindness.  Use this Summer to “sow” kindness with people in our community!

Random Thoughts:

  • What a great Sunday in so many ways!  I loved the “OnePrayer” series last year and I know this year will be a great “OnePrayer” series as well.  Next Sunday we get to hear from Andy Stanley.
  • Over 50 packs of “Kindness” cards were taken yesterday from people signing up to accept the “40 day Kindness Challenge”.  Over the next 40 days in and around our community over 2000 “Acts of Kindness” will happen as a result of people accepting yesterday’s challenge.  I can’t wait to hear about them.
  • I love our band!  I love the worship!
  • Pray for our Student Missionary team in New Orleans!  I heard from Nathan last night/this morning and the team arrived safely and got familiar with where they are staying.  They are ready for a great week of ministry and work.  You can check Nathan’s blog here for some updates this week.
  • I had the privilege of doing a wedding Friday night for an incredible couple, James and Megan Williams!  I am so thankful that they are Grovers and I am excited about their marriage.  I loved having the wedding on Friday night.
  • We had a great crowd for a Sunday in June!  It is way above any crowd we have ever had in June!  God is working!
  • Remember to stay focused this summer on “sowing” into relationships that we can reap in the fall!  Take your vacations but make sure you don’t take a vacation from God or His work in you and through you.
  • I am doing an interesting thing in this season for my personal growth.  I am reading one chapter of the gospel of John everyday for a week.  For the first week I read chapter one of John for seven days in a row with different exercises and perspectives each day.  This week I will be reading John 5 each day.  I would love to share with you what I am doing.
  • I continue to see new faces each week!  I love it!  Keep bringing and inviting your friends.
  • Today is Craig Story’s birthday!  Call him, email him and tell him Happy Birthday and buy him something.  That is a great idea for one of your “Acts of Kindness”.  It can be your, “Be nice to old people” act of kindness!  HA!
  • I love you and I am praying for you and your family.

Yesterday at The Grove we kicked-off our OnePrayer series with a 40 day “Act of Kindness” Challenge, encouraging everyone to commit to doing one random Act of Kindness per day for 40 days.  It fits perfect with the mission of Church at the Grove.  We exist to “develop people who follow Jesus and Make Disciples”.  We accomplish this by 1. Creating environments where people can explore faith.  2. Encouraging Relationships through Community Groups.  3. Starting Discussions that lead to sharing the hope found in Jesus.

You can sign on to be a part of the 40 day “Act of Kindness” Challenge at ResurrectingHope.com  and you can post or email reports of your Acts of Kindness as well.

Here are some ideas to spur on your creativity:

  • Pick up a neighbors newspaper and take it to their front door.
  • Cut part or all of your neighbors grass.
  • Pay for someone’s parking, meal, drink, toll etc in a drive-thru line.
  • Allow someone to move ahead of you in a line at a store, bank or business.
  • Take food or a meal to someone new in the neighborhood.
  • Clean up litter in your neighborhood.
  • Visit a nursing home or an assisted living center and make someone smile.
  • Bake cookies or your favorite snack and take them to the local police or fire station or to the emergency room medical staff at your local hospital.
  • Look for opportunities to open the door for someone or to help an elderly person with their packages.
  • Write your child a special note and leave in their lunchbox or their room to be surprised.
  • Tape the correct change to the front of a drink machine or newspaper box.
  • Leave an extra amount for the tip at a restaurant.
  • Leave a thank-you note for your mail carrier.
  • Send flowers or balloons to someone you are thankful for.

I will post some other new ideas throughout the next month or so.  Go be kind!

Big Idea:
The greatest measure of success for any given generation is their effectiveness in passing the baton of truth and faith to the next generation.

Scripture Memory:
Titus 2:3-5 (NIV)
3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good.
4 Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children,
5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
Action Step:
Seek out a women this week that you can develop a mentoring relationship with over time to encourage you in the areas discussed in Titus 2:3-5

Random Thoughts:
  • Summer has hit!  It feels so different on Sundays after school is out!  Not bad, just different.
  • I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for each of us to seek out people who can invest in us and counsel us on being godly individuals, husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, and growing leaders among our generation.
  • No matter how bad it is and is becoming, you can “hang in there” and trust God.
  • This was a good but crazy weekend!
  • Thanks to Will Goodwin for his worship leadership!  Pray for Allison and Ric while Alli is on complete bed-rest waiting another month, at least, for Isaac to be born.
  • No more setup and breakdown for a couple of months!  Yippee!
  • I am praying for godly men and women to grow up in this generation and I hope and pray that Church at the Grove is leading the way.
  • Amidst all of your summer vacationing, don’t miss what is happening this month with “One Prayer” that starts this Sunday!
  • Let’s use the summer months to invest in relationships for the Kingdom!

See you Sunday!
