One of the things that Jill and I are doing now is getting quotes on our Homeowner and Auto insurance to ensure we are getting the best price possible.

We have collected all of our current information together and are shopping for prices for comparable coverage from multiple companies.  I know of some individuals and couples that have saved hundreds of dollars a year by shopping their insurance.

The danger in NOT SHOPPING, is in ignoring our insurance and simply paying the premiums when the bill comes, we miss out on keeping our insurance provider accountable for giving us the best price possible.  They can raise their premiums slightly over time and we may not notice.

Big Idea:
God’s will is clearly discerned as we foster the connection between our personal lives and His Providential and Moral Will.  God’s will and God’s Word are inseparably connected.

Scripture Memory:
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Action Step:
Take the opportunity to CONNECT with other followers of Jesus through our Community Groups and/or join us for our C-3 (Membership Class) this coming Friday night Jan. 23.

Random Thoughts:

  • I was worried about the weather for this morning!  Why worry, it felt like a heat wave compared to the temperatures earlier in the week.
  • What a crowd!  Considering the holiday weekend, and the rainy morning I would have thought the crowd would have been lower.  That is AWESOME!  Let’s keep it GROWING!
  • I love Ric and the Band’s flexibility!  Ric learned about 12:30am that some of his band guys couldn’t be here and without panic he simply adjusted and got ready for an incredible morning of worship.  I appreciate James and Mike for being flexible.
  • We had tons of children at both services this morning!  I am thankful for Rosemary Kirby and her awesome team and the great KidsGrove leaders that do such an awesome job each week!
  • God is doing some amazing things in some lives and families.
  • It is awesome to continue to see new faces on Sundays.
  • It is awesome to see some of those new faces come back for the second and third times!  That is a good and healthy sign for a young church.
  • I am looking forward to seeing our Community Groups take off!
  • I am looking forward to our C-3 Membership class this Friday evening.
  • We will conclude our “GPS: Finding and Following God’s Will” series this coming Sunday and then we will begin “Come As You Were”, a three week series that will be a lot of fun!
  • What a historical week.  Regardless of your political views, it is a testament to the greatness of our country to see an African-American inaugurated this week as President.
  • I think it would be a great idea to have a bunch of our families host Super Bowl parties all over the community to build relationships with people that may lead to sharing the hope that is found in Jesus!  Will you consider hosting a Super Bowl party?  Would you at least consider inviting your pastor if you have a BIG SCREEN?
  • I look forward to seeing you this coming weekend if not sooner!

It was absolutely COLD last night and this morning!  I think it was 12 to 14 degrees Fahrenheit this morning when I got out.  That is stinkin’ cold.

It may be cold outside, but it is oh…….so warm in The Grove right now!  I know people could get tired of me saying this but it is so true.  One of the leaders in our church called me the other day and said, “I told my wife after the first Sunday of the new year that it just seems like we are becoming a family.”

I love it!

Here is what dictionary.com describes as “warmth” on their 3rd and 4th entries on the word:

3. liveliness of feelings, emotions, or sympathies; ardor or fervor; enthusiasm or zeal: She spoke her mind with great warmth. There was warmth in his greeting and in his handshake.
4. the quality of being intimate and attached: All children need warmth and affection from their families.

We are definitely experiencing warmth.  Their is a zeal for God.  Their is an enthusiasm for reaching people for Jesus!  There is a “warmth” in our fellowship right now!

Oh yes,  it is cold outside, but it is oh…….so…….warm in The Grove.

Regardless of the temperature Sunday morning, come inside at Youth Middle School and experience the “warmth” I am talking about.  Don’t miss it!!!!!

When facing tough times financially here are a couple of tips:

Tip #1
You must distinguish between WANTS and NEEDS.

Tip #2
Here is a general order of priority for expenses.  (Thanks to Joseph Sangl)

  1. Food and Medicine (groceries-offbrand/generics)
  2. Housing and Utilities (loan, insurance, taxes, utilities)
  3. Transportation (loan, insurance, taxes, gasoline)
  4. Secured Debts (boat, motorcycle, four-wheeler, furniture)
  5. Unsecured Debts (credit cards, student loans, etc)

Take some time and put together a written spending plan.  Once all the expenses are itemized, spend some time prioritizing them.

These are great first steps!  Congratulations!
