I am sitting here working on some sermon stuff while watching the Presidential Debate.  Let me share a few thoughts I have about politics and politicians.  I DON’T LIKE EITHER!

I really don’t put a lot of stock in politics or politicians.  They both take well-meaning and good people and twist them into people easily influenced by agenda-driven politics and special-interest groups.

With that said, here is what I desire and look for in a President:

  • I would like to have a President that was committed to considering the truths of God espoused in the Bible but I know that my ideals may not always be possible or public.  I would like the President to be man or woman committed to leading with integrity and character without worrying about public opinion polls or popularity with the political community!
  • I would like the President to lead our nation with a high level of competence expected of a CEO that is held to a high level of accountability.  This competence is to be our Commander-in-Chief, our fiscal financial leader and morally responsible leader.
  • I would like the President to bring experts from different fields to the table of leadership and influence without regard to political affiliation.  Let’s work together to accomplish good and get the job done and not worry who gets the credit.
  • I would like the President to take a stand on what he or she believes without flip-flopping based on what is politically popular and acceptable.
  • I would like the President to lead from a core belief and philosophy that all human life is a product of a creator and should be held as precious.

More to come……….

Sunday’s key thought:  It is out of the goodness of God to be a Refuge for those in need.

God instituted Cities of Refuge in Joshua 20:1-3 and he elaborates on the nature of a Refuge in Psalm 91:1-4

Memory Verse:

Psalms 34:8 (NIV)
8 Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

Action Step:  Do an act of kindness in a practical manner this week that demonstrates God’s goodness and his nature as a Refuge.

Random Thoughts:

  • I have received multiple phone calls, emails, and text messages about how incredible yesterday’s Services were!
  • Ric and the band were spot ON!
  • I prayed as I prepared for the message this week that God would simply have His ANNOINTING on our services.  What a Sunday!
  • We had one of our highest offerings all year! WOW!
  • I love it when we have to pull out chairs in one of our services.  What a great crowd yesterday!  One of our biggest crowds of the year!
  • I love momentum.  I hope we keep it going!
  • I hope our people will take advantage of the momentum and continue inviting their friends.

There is not much worse than a gas shortage unless you are at a middle school lock-in and you are sleeping with the boys!

I have heard a few stories of high tensions resulting from the shortage of gasoline in our community.  As a result of high tensions there have been arguments and conflict at the gas pumps.  Some of the people in our church have shared stories of witnessing these conflicts.

These are difficult times filled with stress but these are times with incredible opportunity to allow the character of Jesus to clearly and practically flow through our lives.  Here are some ideas and practical steps to make a difference during these tough economic times:

  1. Remember God is in control.  There is so much hope in this simple truth.
  2. Chill!  Relax and remain calm.  Be slow to anger.  I think that is in the Bible somewhere.
  3. See the opportunity to BE JESUS to people in a time of crisis!  What an opportunity to be a witness!
  4. Speak words of life rather than words of criticism.
  5. Stand up for those being mistreated.  I am not saying get into a fight, but in stressful times, the Bullies will try to control people.
  6. Act Kindly, speak kindly and look for ways to intentionally bless people!

These are incredible times to exert some influence for Jesus.  Be intentional!
