Don’t miss the opportunity the next three weeks to hear “Ancient Stories of God’s Grace” at Church at the Grove!Better yet, don’t miss the opportunity to invite your friends and family, (or complete strangers) to come with you to hear “Ancient stories of God’s Grace”!

This Sunday March 18 we begin a three week teaching series called “The Great Cover Up” that focuses on God’s initiative taken to establish a relationship with us. His initiative involves taking action to cover the sin in and from our lives.

This Sunday is going to be incredible! Be ready to take a step of faith! We will be focusing on the Passover that took place when the Israelites were given specific steps of action to take in preparing to leave Egypt.

Bring Your own Lamb!

Yes!! The votes are in and we are going to TWO services!

Beginning Easter Sunday and going at least through Memorial Day weekend, Church at the Grove is going to two services. If for some reason you missed the service (either not there or serving with children) this past weekend, we will have audio CD’s this next Sunday morning. Make sure you pick one up and make your choice of which weeks you can serve with set up and children’s ministries.

I love this Church!

I am so thankful for our Launch Team and the investment they have made into the life of this church! They have given incredibly of their time, thier energy and their resources to make Church at the Grove a reality!

We are entering a new era in the life of Church at the Grove! The beautiful thing is that God has moved in such a way with our growth that we are in need of servants to step up and help us get to the next level and people this past weekend absolutely met the challenge! We connected a huge number of people into the life of the church through serving in the multiple areas of leadership! That is absolutely HUGE!

Do not forget to continue to pray and invest in conversations and people that can take advantage of our newly created seats as a result of our new service. Lets go after people with the love of Jesus in a way that makes them hungry for what God has for them!

Go ahead begin to think of who you can call and invite to one of our upcoming services!

Walk across the street, next door, start a conversation!

What is Church? or what is a church?

These seem like pointless questions, but they are necessary questions. When you think of what is at stake in how they are answered, they are questions they have eternal consequences.

The first obvious answer is church is what takes place on Sunday morning at a specific location. (Obviously the location must include a steeple, baptistery, and pulpit.)

The second obvious answer is that the church is a geographic location that includes a building called the “church”. This explains how someone is asked, “Where do you go to church?” The answer often includes the pointing of a finger in a certain direction (the stated geographic location) and followed with the specific name of the the church, which happens to be located at stated geographic location. Right?!! It is simple!

Here is the problem with these answers and the mindset and philosophy that goes with them. Jesus didn’t die for a building, a steeple, a pulpit, or a baptistery! According to scripture, Jesus died for souls of individuals created in His image! Jesus didn’t die for a piece of property or an address or even a Post Office Box, Jesus died for people! Human Beings!

The third answer that often comes up when people discuss “church”. It is what happens on Sunday morning (or sometimes on Saturday night), Sunday night or Wednesday night. Church is a “service” or “ceremony” that takes place at a scheduled time. Jesus didn’t die and give His life for a “service” or a “ceremony”, He gave his life for individuals that profess Him as Lord!

The Church is people!

I have often told our people at Church at the Grove, when someone asks where your church is, tell them that some of them are at work, some of them are at home, some of them are at school, and some of them are out at other places. The church is people!

Church is not what takes place on Sunday mornings, it is not a building, it is not a piece of property, it is not a ceremony or a service. The church is people, the body of Christ. Church happens when we walk out the door of our house, when we go to school, when we go to work and wherever we are. Church happens as we live life. Christ came to dwell among his people, and when He left He sent the Comforter (the Holy Spirit) to live in those people that made up His new community and wherever those people go, Christ continues to dwell among people!

Simply put, people are the church and Christ in them takes the church to people that need Christ.

We live in a dangerous time where people are looking for the “right” church, when they should be looking for where they can “be” the church to people!

Instead of looking for a church with the right music, the right children’s ministry, the right programs for my family, why not prayerfully seek God’s leadership for where you and your family can join forces with a community carrying out God’s mission in this world.

Pastor Steven Furtick in Charlotte, North Carolina states, “The church is a battleship, not a cruise ship.Pastors and leaders are generals to equip you for battle in the trenches, not cruise directors to make your stay more enjoyable on the Lido deck.”

Be the church in your neighborhood this week!

Yesterday was an awesome day in the life of Church at the Grove. It was awesome for a number of reasons but here is a few:

  • We saw a huge response in people stepping up wanting to serve in a way that makes two services a reality!
  • We saw our attendance continue to grow and people continue to respond to the love of Jesus!
  • We had David Odom…aka…..SongMonkey back from the Caribbean Cruise!
  • People continue to invite their friends and family to see what God is doing!

I love our Community Group on Sunday nights. We didn’t have the awesome Oreo Pie from Shamrelle and Troy last night, but we did have the coconut shrimp and our resident fundamentalist Glennnnn Pelham provided the hot wings! You are awesome Glennnnnn. Most importantly, God is doing some awesome things in transforming lives.

Fear!!!! I had to make a HUGE decision this past week with Craig Story regarding our two services and FEAR was the only argument I had for NOT going to two services. I think God waits for us to respond with Faith and as a result He will show us His faithfulness. WOW!

I love this Church!

Who’s up for a Final Four bracket contest? Who do think will make it to Atlanta? I will be making my picks and posting them in the next day or two.

Do the braves have what it takes to win another division title?

Why do the DAWGS have what it takes this coming year to win the SEC championship again? Does anyone know that they are in Spring practice right now! Does anyone care? I do!!!!!!

By the way, I apologize to Mrs. Pelham for leaving off one of the (n’s) in her son Glenn’s name. I do believe I made up for it above.

Don’t forget to walk across the street!!!!!
