Sunday reflections and this week at the Grove

February 8th, 2010 Posted in Church at the Grove, Random Thoughts | No Comments »

Big Idea:
The foundation for Staying in Love is making love a verb!

Scripture Memory:
John 13:34 (ESV)
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

Action Step:
Take the card given out at the end of the gathering and read it everyday for the next week.  It has the scripture we will study next week on the front and some questions for thought on the back.  Read this at least once everyday for the next week.

Random Thoughts:

What a great morning at Church at the Grove!  Lots of new faces and I love it when I see guests coming back the second and third and fourth time!  Awesome!

I thought I was not going to be able to talk after the “Kim and Jamesh” video this morning!  I could not breathe.  It is by far one of the funniest things I have ever seen.  I can’t wait for part 2 next week! I will post the video when it is posted on youtube.

I am writing this right before the Super Bowl.  I am picking the Colts, although I don’t really care who wins.  I just planning on enjoying the game.

C-3 gathering this Friday night! This is an opportunity to hear about the vision, mission, values and beliefs of Church at the Grove and ask questions you may have. It is required for membership, but you don’t have to join that evening.  It is a blast and a great chance to meet some new people.  Please email or call us if you plan to attend.

Thankful Thursday was a huge hit at Youth Middle School this week!  Thank you to Barbara Bledsoe, Lisa Malcolm and all the people that prepared food and items for the day!  It was an awesome day and the teachers loved it.  We do it again next week!

Romania Cake auction is next Sunday Feb. 14!  Bring some money and buy your valentine something for their sweet tooth and help support the Romania mission trip.

We need people for breakdown team.  Give approximately 30 minutes after a service once a month and help us breakdown!  Email or call us to volunteer.

MAKE LOVE A VERB this week!  Look for practical ways you can love and serve your spouse and then come back next Sunday for an awesome valentine’s Day!

Community Groups are going!  Make sure you join a community group and get to know people!  Do life together!

10 for 2010! Be praying for those in your circle of relationships that you can share Jesus with and invite to The Grove!  Easter is coming soon and you can invite them to Easter gathering on April 4!

God is working! Be sensitive and open to where God is working in your life and the lives around you!

Keep praying, keep investing, keep inviting!

Sunday Reflections and this week at the Grove

February 1st, 2010 Posted in General | No Comments »

Big Idea:
Jesus says, “Do you love me more than these?”  John 21:15

Memory Verse:
Psalms 16:2 (ESV)
2 I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.”

Action Step:
Evaluate what in your life takes precedent over love/affection for Jesus!

Random Thoughts:

What an awesome conclusion to our “Crazy Love” series!  Thank you to Gabe Shababy and Rolin Williamson for their ministry yesterday!  I am so thankful for these guys and their willingness to share their gifts.

What a crazy weekend!  We had some new friends over on Friday night, stayed busy most of the day Saturday and had a HUGE full day Sunday!

Josiah’s birthday is Jan. 24 and we had his “airsoft war” party yesterday at my brother’s home in Monroe.  We gathered a bunch of middle school boys, a few adults and ran around in the woods shooting each other.  It was awesome fun!  It is a great way to take out a bunch of aggression…..legally.

We had some new friends over last night that have been attending CATG.  Had a blast hanging out with the Jones family.

Don’t forget to make getting in a Community Group a priority! Make sure you find one of our groups and get connected.  Relationships are so important!

Thankful Thursdays began this coming Thursday at Youth Middle School. We need a couch!  Anyone have a couch we can borrow for February?  If you want to hang out with some teachers and a couple of CATG people come see us at Youth Middle School on Thursday.

Ladies Night Out! This Tuesday at Tonya Calhoun’s place.  7pm!

I am really excited about our new series “Staying in Love”.  I am hoping and praying that marriages and families will be saved, encouraged and equipped over these next four weeks.  Don’t miss it AND take the opportunity to invite some friends, family or neighbors.

Lots and lots going on!  Praying for God to work in my life, the lives of people in our community and in the life of CATG!

We had a blast in our middle school boys small group this past week!  We talked about accountability and about Jesus’ work in our life.  5 middle school boys prayed to receive Jesus into their heart! WOW!  Praying for God to IGNITE something in the lives of our students.  If you are interested in being involved, let me or Nathan Boyd know.

Keep praying, keep investing, keep inviting!

Weekly reflections and This week in The Grove

January 27th, 2010 Posted in Church at the Grove, Random Thoughts | 2 Comments »

Big Idea:
Worship is our mind’s attention and heart’s affection on God, thanking Him and praising Him for who he is and what He has done, expressed in and by what we say and how we live.

A genuine encounter with Jesus leads to a radical response with your life.

Worship is a verb.

Scripture Memory:
John 4:23 (ESV)
23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.

Action Step: Do something pragmatic and practical this week as an act of worship that takes you out of your comfort zone.  Respond in corporate worship and in your private worship.
Random Thoughts:

  • Sunday was without a doubt one of the most powerful worship times we have ever had at Church at the Grove!  Awesome!
  • This has been a great series!  I love talking about God’s “Crazy Love”!
  • Man, we are having a lot of babies born into families of Church at the Grove!  We have had 2 babies born in the last 2 weeks!  Its crazy but I love it!
  • I am looking forward to the CATG mission trip to Romania in late July.  This is the last week to sign up or commit to the trip.  See Nathan.  Jill and I are trying to decide which one of us is going to go.  Help!
  • We have Thankful Thursdayscoming up at Youth Middle School in February!  We set up the stage in the cafeteria/auditorium as a cafe and serve coffee and food to the teachers all day during their planning periods.  They get to relax, play Wii, hang out and talk without thinking about work.  We need your help with food, and just hanging out loving on teachers.  We will also do this in March at Walnut Grove High School.
  • COMMUNITY GROUPS!  Groups begin this week!  Don’t miss out on building relationships with people in CATG!  Our journey as followers of Jesus is best experienced in the context of relationships!  Life is too hard to journey alone!
  • I am having a blast helping Nathan with our middle and high school students!  Since my son Josiah is in 6th grade I am back involved in youth ministry.  Come and join us!  We need some more adults that will hang out and love on students.  Disciple Now weekend is coming up Feb. 19th and 20th.  It is a great in home retreat where youth have fun and grow spiritually.
  • We have a new teaching series that begins Sunday February 7.  It will be titled “Staying in Love” and will focus on marriage and relationships.  Don’t miss this practical series that offers wise guidance on doing marriage right and making it last!  There are a lot of marriages struggling and people hurting.  This is an awesome series to invite some friends and neighbors.
  • I just renewed my homeowner and auto insurance and saved a ton!  I also have an incredible source on roof and gutter work that will save a ton of $$$.  Let me know and I will pass on the contacts to you.
  • I am praying for David and Gracy Bondy in South Asia, Pat and Joy Hardin in Romania and Josh and Rebekah Holt preparing for England.  I am also praying for the church plants we support and other ministries we partner with.  So many!
  • I am praying for the people and relief efforts in Haiti and about future opportunities we may have to invest in people’s lives there.  Please join in praying.
  • I am so thankful for our leaders at CATG.  I had the opportunity to hang out with Leo Shababy yesterday evening and he is such an encourager and so practical in helping me think through steps for CATG to continue reaching people for Jesus.

Keep praying, keep investing, keep inviting!
